Do you need lactation consultation but don’t have the money to cover it? This post will help you locate services that provide low or no cost lactation consults. You will also learn about insurance reimbursement as well.
The Affordable Care Act provides for lactation services and personal breast pumps. Most lactation services can be reimbursed if the provider will give you the information to do so. You can also pay for services using a Health Savings Account.

WIC (Women, Infants & Children)
Most WIC locations have breastfeeding peer counselors that can provide you with help over the phone and in person. Some WIC breastfeeding peer counselors will come to your home to help you. Sign up for WIC while your are still pregnant. Attend free WIC breastfeeding classes. Get to know your breastfeeding peer counselors so that you will know who to call once you deliver. For more information on WIC for your area go to public health department’s website for your state and search for WIC.

La Leche League
La Leche League is an international organization that provides free support over the phone and local support groups. These groups are led by league leaders who have breastfed their own babies and received additional training to help other moms. Website is www.llli.org
